Item Description
Fantastic gilt lacquered Japanese box and cover. Quartrefoil form with carved foliate decoration.
The box is extremely light weight, with thin substrate and coats of lacquer, something Japanese artisans were masters of.
Late Meiji Dynasty style.
Dimensions: 1 1/8"H x 2 3/4"L x 2 1/4"D
Condition: There are some minute losses to the gilt finished surface with minute nics and chips. A small minute section on the mouth rim of the box has lost it's gilt finish but is concealed by the cover. Overall, despite the negligible wear the box and cover present fantastically and the surface wear is likely commensurate with age and gentle handling and all wear can be noted in the lot images. Presents well overall.
