Item Description
This lovely watercolor painting is pencil signed to the lower left corner. There is a date which can not be accurately made out as the mat border cuts off the lower half of the year.
Irwin D. Hoffman well known as a painter, etcher, sculptor and lithographer was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1901 as a son of Russian immigrants.
This painting depicts an African American man wearing loose fitting clothing seated on a rock with a wide brimmed hat looking off into the distance. He has a cane or tool in his left hand using to stabilize him while sitting. He is seen sitting in a landscape with green trees behind him. The artist has painted his loose fitting clothing with great detail, depicting creases and makes use of the the play in depicting light and shadow.
The painting is presented as matted, framed and glazed.

Condition: There is wear and some discoloration to the paper and could stand to be cleaned but does present well in it's current state. The back has cardboard backing which appears to have a water stain in one corner that can be seen in the lot photographs.
