Item Description
In the Style of Hugues Merle (French, 1823-1881) "Mother and Child with Morning Glories and Roses" pastel on paper depicting a woman with a blonde updo decorated with white vining flowers holding the hand of a child with curly brown hair. The pair wear flowing white gowns and hold large blooming flowers against a bright blue sky with striated clouds. Displayed behind glass with a gilt and canvas border in an ornately flourished tiered gilt frame.
Condition: Displays well with scattered wrinkles to paper, notably a diagonal wrinkle across the woman's eyes. Scattered cracks to frame gesso and gilt finish wear. Minor chipped loss to the lower right corner of the frame and a dent to the canvas border. Light scattered pigment residue on the interior of the glass from contact with the art.
