Hubertus Van Hove (Dutch, 1814-1864/65) oil on panel painting, titled "The Guest's Arrival", painted in 1863.
The painting marvelously depicts a richly decorated interior space with a boy and girl dressed in period attire in the interior space within the foreground with an arched doorwell giving view into the rest of the massive interior space with a figure in the distant background.
Signed lower right corner.
Presented within an impressive and substantial carved and gilt finished frame.
Condition: Heavily restored, the panel had warped / split in its history and an additional brace was placed to the reverse for additional support. There is a section where the painting was restored and in painted extending from the top of the painting down to the bottom on the left hand side which can be seen to the left of the mirror which hangs on the wall. There is also a spot which was indented with craquelure in spiral pattern to the floor tiles near where the spit had been restored.
Despite wear and old restoration the painting is structurally solid and presents exceptionally well.
