Item Description

Herend Hungary porcelain covered butter dish, model 589/RO, executed in the classic Rothschild Bird (RO) pattern. The piece consists of a domed cover with floral finial and matching underplate, both showcasing Herend’s delicate basketweave (osier) texture. The domed lid is topped with a sculptural vine handle accented with a yellow and pink rose and green leaves—each petal and leaf meticulously shaped and hand-painted.
The body and underplate are decorated with vivid butterflies and insects in jewel-like tones of pink, blue, yellow, and orange, each outlined in fine black brushwork. The composition is framed with elegant 24K gold trim along the rims. The underside bears the Herend Hungary blue shield hallmark with crossed paintbrushes, HANDPAINTED inscription, and pattern number 589/RO

Dimensions: 3 1/2" H x 6" DIA

Condition: Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. The gilding is intact and gleaming, and the hand-painted decoration remains bright and crisp. The floral finial and handle are in perfect condition with no petal loss. The underside is clean and fully marked, displaying the factory stamp and painter’s marks. Only minor shelf wear visible on the unglazed rim of the underplate.
