Item Description

Herend Hungary hand-painted porcelain covered tureen, crafted in the Rothschild Bird (RO) pattern and richly accented with 24K gold and green branch-form handles and finial. This elegant lidded serving piece exemplifies the refinement of Herend porcelain, with its oval form, basketweave (osier) molded texture, and softly scalloped rim. The domed lid features a gracefully arched vine and leaf handle, complementing the twin branch-form side handles, all glazed in Herend’s signature apple-green hue. The surface is adorned with pairs of colorful songbirds perched upon leafy branches with necklaces, surrounded by delicate butterflies, beetles, and insects rendered in vibrant, hand-painted enamels. The rim, base, and finial edges are trimmed with fine hand-applied gilding, enhancing the brilliance of the white porcelain body. The underside bears the blue Herend Hungary hallmark, featuring the shield with crossed paintbrushes, the word HANDPAINTED, and pattern number 435/RO.

Dimensions: 7 1/4" H x 11 3/8" L, handle to handle

Condition: Excellent condition overall. The tureen and lid are free of chips, cracks, and restorations. The gilding is bright and intact, and the painted decoration remains fresh, colorful, and unfaded. Interior and underside are clean and well-preserved, showing minimal signs of shelf display. The underside is clean and fully marked with Herend’s blue factory hallmark, pattern code, and artisan hand inscriptions. The base foot shows light shelf wear only, consistent with careful display.
