Item Description
A four-volume World-Edition Complete set of Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales, published by Flensted, Odense, Denmark, presented in original red cloth bindings with gilt decoration. The set includes Volumes I–IV, housed in the original cream-colored slipcase. Each volume features illustrated title pages and black-and-white portrait frontispieces, with illustrations reproduced from original works by Vilhelm Pedersen and Lorenz Frølich, held in the Andersen Museum at Odense.
Edited by Svend Larsen, Director of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, and translated from the original Danish by R. P. Keigwin, who was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Prize in 1964 for his outstanding translation (commemorative medallion present). Copyright page indicates first edition 1950, with subsequent reprintings through the early 1960s.
A handsome and historically significant mid-century literary set celebrating Andersen’s legacy in his native Denmark.
Condition
Overall very good condition. Books show light shelf wear, minor scuffing, and occasional surface marks to covers. Interiors appear clean with no major staining or damage noted. Slipcase shows moderate wear, discoloration, and handling marks consistent with age. Medallion ribbon present. See photographs for details.
