Item Description
Pair of beautifully hand-colored Pierre-Joseph Buc'hoz (French, 1731-1807) botanical engravings. The first depicts a sun star flower with delicate yellow blooms, surrounded by a blue bird, a caterpillar and a moth. Script below the image reads "L'Ornithogale jaune du Cap." The second depicts "Chinese chamomile" flowers in pale purple-white and rich green foliage, surrounded by pink leaves and a dragonfly. Script below the image reads "La Matricaire de la Chine à fleurs blanches et violetes" and is accompanied by Chinese for "chrysanthemum." Both pieces are displayed behind glass with purple and blue banded borders accented with gilt bands complimenting gilt frames.
Condition: Displays well with minor discoloration and paper toning. Scattered wear to frames.
