Item Description
From a series of fine copperplate engravings of Sibyls published in Antwerp, 1575. P. Galle (1537-1612), A. Bloclandt (1532-1583). Ex Sotheby's New York auction. There were many sibyls in the ancient classical world who were priestesses and prophetesses in Greece, Italy and other locations. These engravings Include the famous Delphic and Cumaean sibyls. Each is shown holding books in architectural or landscape settings particular to their locations.
Each engraving hinged at the tops under plastic film in hinged mats.

Condition: engravings- tape marks visible in the corners, some with slight foxing in the margins, the Samian Siblyl with tear into the left middle margin, the Cumaean Sibyl with brown spot right margin, otherwise good
