German 19th century musical autograph book. A fascinating collection containing autographs, sketches and also short musical scores by composers and instructors of music in Leipzig, Germany and Adelaide, South Australia among other locales. Including a sketch of King Richard III by August Pfeiffer, a musical score by composer Carl Reinecke (German, 1824-1910). Also including a score by musical instructor William Bellack (American 1864-1906), and an inscription, autograph and drawing by Guido Gialdini, (German born Kurt Abramowitsch), a "whistler" known for his ability to whistle any tune he heard. Together with many other autographs, inscriptions and musical scores. Book with a green velvet cover with brass ornamentation and clasp.
These autograph books gave a view into what a composer, performer or conductor found most interesting. They may have been recent compositions, their most famous piece, snippets of another composer’s pieces or may have been inspired by conversations with the autograph collector; a fascinating record of the past.
Condition: Considerable wear to cover, loose binding, toning and foxing to pages, some of which are loose or detached.
