George Inness (American, 1825-1894) oil on wood panel painting, depicting a landscape at dawn or dusk.
Inness best known as one of the most influential American landscape artists of the 19th century, having been heavily influenced by the Hudson River School.
The antique oil on wood panel painting depicts a vast landscape at dawn or dusk. The scene is one of wilderness, with a river cutting through the landscape with trees and foliage on each river bank.
The vivid illumination of the sun in the distant far ground brings the landscape to life with light appearing to ripple off the landscape and river along with sky above; while not illuminating areas such as the foliage in the near foreground.
Presented within a carved, antiqued finished, wood frame.

Condition: Old restoration and in painting can be seen throughout, with the trim edge of all four sides flourescing under black light. Areas on both the left and right hand side of the painted panel also flouresce signaling old restoration and in painting. There are also small spot losses of the pigment. Despite wear and old restoration the painting on wood panel presents exceptionally well.
