Item Description
A George II style burl walnut and oak slant front secretary bookcase with the upper case featuring a molded crown over a wide frieze, with a large single cabinet door with brass shield form escutcheon plate. The door opens to reveal two shelves that are not adjustable but removable. Possible third shelf lacking for which there is a slot.
The middle section with a slant-front door also having a shield form escutcheon plate that opens to a tooled leather writing surface that is supported by two pull-outs, fitted interior with four niches above three shallow drawers. The lower case contains four graduated drawers with hand cut dovetail joinery and original or period-style brass bail pulls. The whole rests upon classic bracket feet.
Dimensions: 21 3/4" W at base, 19 1/2" D at base, 11 5/8" D top crown, 65 5/8" H
Condition: No key, possible shelf missing, stable age cracks, timeworn gouges, scratches, marks, door is warped and not able to close flat (see photos) but does not detract from the overall presentation and desirable easy to place size.
Wear that is consistent with age and use.
