Item Description
George Emerick Essig was born in Philadelphia and reputedly studied with the marine painters James Hamilton (1819-1878) and Edward Moran (1829-1901). He also became a specialist in marine scenes and often painted scenes of the New Jersey coast. His main medium was watercolors.
This work depicts anchored sailboats at sea with figures aboard, silhouettes of a city in the hazy background, a floating buoy in the foreground, set against a hazy sky filled with seagulls.
Presented in a once gilt frame, well matted and glazed.

Condition: Gilt is nearly entirely obliterated from the frame, some faint foxing visible in the sky. Wear to corners of frame.
