About the Artist:
Eugène "Gen" Paul was a French naive painter and engraver. He worked in decorative furnishing before serving in the French army during World War I. After the war, his artwork took on an expressionist style using rich color, gestural brushwork, and dynamic compositions. In 1934 he was awarded the Legion of Honor, and in 1937 he was commissioned to paint a large fresco for the Pavilion of Wines of France at the Paris International Exposition.
