Item Description
A charming antique French glove box, circa 1850. The box is well crafted with a canted corner rectangular form and veneered with burled thuya wood panels and palm wood inlays making for a blend of wood grain and warm brown hues. The slightly dome lid is inlaid with a mother of pearl motif at the center of the cartouche, detailed with fleur-de-lis motifs at the corners and accentuated with brass stringing.
A key is included for the keyhole at the front of the box, allowing the fall front to open to a spacious interior in a darker brown wood. This design was a standard element of high-quality Napoleon III glove boxes, as it allowed the delicate, long evening gloves of the era to be slid out horizontally without snagging on the box's upper edges.

Dimensions: 11 1/4" L, 4 1/2" D and 3 1/4" H
Condition: wear along the top edge of the fall front (see photo), overall good condition.
