Item Description
Collection of framed 19th century family photographs, including a tintype. An oval photograph of a woman in a lace-trimmed hat is marked on the back, "A.S. Morse, photographer, Dept of the Cumberland, Branch of Hd Qrs 25 Cedar Street; Nashville, Tenn." A circular photograph of a woman with a large brooch is marked on the back "John B. Russell, Crantown Strathspey, King Street." A pair of images of Civil War veteran George Bryant Woods, including a CDV which is labeled at the bottom "Whipple, 297 Washington St. Boston." Photographs display in wood, cast iron, or leather framing. One photograph of an infant is surrounded by copper-toned repousse in a gilt frame, surrounded by an intricately stacked wood lattice.
Verbal Provenance: George Bryant Woods (1844-1871) from Barre, MA served in the 8th Massachusetts Battery as a journalist during the war.
Condition: Displays well with expected wear commensurate with age. Picture fading, discoloration, surface wear. Minor chipped glass rims that do not significantly detract from appearance. Finish wear and discoloration to frames. Chips and minor wood loss to wood lattice frame.
