A fabulous handmade Mola textile artwork depicting four hands gathering around a table, perhaps playing cards. The scene is beautifully designed with layered hues of red, orange, blue, and purple accented with decorative stitched embroidery for additional texture.
Presented with a burlap mat within a chrome frame.
Molas ("shirt" or "clothing") for the Guna people from Panama and Colombia have a rich history with an origin in body painting. The traditional designs of body art were transferred to a textile medium in the 17th century. The designs were originally painted directly onto the fabric, but by the later part of the 19th century reverse applique became a popular method. Several layers of colorful fabric are sewn together, and then strategically cut away to reveal beautiful, intricate compositions.
