Item Description
Frances F. Palmer (English-American, 1812-1876) "Across the Continent" published by James Merritt Ives (American, 1824-1895). A settler community in a bustling town is seem at the left foreground, leading to a rural path with wagons in the distance. The town is cut by a long train, its smoke leading to a wild landscape at the right with two horseback figures looking onward as two figures approach a lake with boats, scaled by the mountains. Labeled "J. M Ives, Del." lower left, "Drawn by F.F. Palmer" lower right, titled lower center, with the caption "Westward the course of Empire takes its way." accompanied by fine print reading "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year AD 1868, by Currier& Ives in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York." Displayed behind glass with a warm red-brown wood frame.
Condition: Displays well with minor discoloration and paper toning. Light wear to frame.
