Item Description
From the storied Istanbul born designer James Mont and originally purchased from the artist in Brooklyn. A rarely seen design with angled Oak frame, an example of the same frame unfinished is known. The finish is an abstract and very decorative application of Silver and Bronze tone metallic paint which utilized the graining of the Oak to excellent effect. The Mirror glass itself is dark and striated and it is not known if this is the effect of aging, Mercury oxidation or original to the design however odds are that it is aging to the glass. In any event, the darkened glass certainly adds to the overall presentation. With good weight and solidity, the Mirror has hangars on the back to use the Mirror in horizontal position however they may be reconfigured for a vertical hanging as well as used as a “Leaner” or Floor Mirror. The back of the Mirror is painted in what is believed to be the sizing paint used on the front to adhere the metallic paints to the surface and is a bright Salmon Orange.
Dimensions: 54.5” high by 22.5” wide by 1.75” deep.
Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of age and use include the darkened Mirror glass which has already been discussed above, sporadic spots of paint and finish loss on the framing and along the back edges being mentioned for accuracy as the presentation remains exceptionally decorative.
