Ernest F. Meyer (German-American, 1863-1952) oil painting on board depicting an Impressionist scene of a man in overalls, guiding a plough affixed to two large bulls pulling the plough through the earth.The artist has used swaths of color to depict the grey sky, darker grey-green landscape in the distance, below the horizon line, with polychromatic areas to depict the grass, worked earth and land around the action. Signed in black lower left.
Displayed in a wonderfully carved and gilt finished frame.

About the Artist:
Ernest Frederick Meyer was a German-born Connecticut and New York based artist known for landscape paintings. He studied under William Merritt Chase, John Henry Twachtman, James Carroll Beckwith, Frank Vincent DuMond, and Charles Henry Turner. Meyer was a member of the Salmagundi Club and exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Boston Art Club.
