Item Description
Edward Gay emigrated to America at the young age of 11. As an artist, Gay trained with artists including William Hart in addition to European artists during a time he spent in Germany, including Karl Friedrich Lessing.
Gay put down roots in Mt. Vernon, New York and became a member of the National Academy of Design.
The early 20th century painting depicts a vast landscape with blue sky with white clouds above and green grass below. A line of trees can be seen on the left hand side of the canvas in the distance with what appears to be architectural structures in the distant far ground.
Signed lower right.
Presented in an antique, elaborately decorative frame.

Condition: Craquelure throughout with small losses and wear to the painted finish. There are numerous spots that flouresce under blacklight indicating in painting and older restoration. The frame has splits and wear as well. All wear is commensurate with age and display. Despite wear the antique early 20th century painting presents wonderfully.
