Item Description
Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904–1997) was a modernist painter from Detroit, Michigan. Yaeger studied at the Detroit School of Fine and Applied Arts where he was awarded the Founder's Society Purchase Prize. Fortunately this prize and a subsequent arts related scholarship allowed Yaeger to travel and study. Ultimately, Yaeger toured European countries ranging from France to Czechoslovakia.
The artist went on to be active and contribute to the Michigan Federal Art project along with the Works Progress Administration during the Depression era.
This current still life painting presents a wooden table with a white table cloth draped over. There is an empty wine caraffe laid on it's side with two bunches of red grapes on the table and an extremely modernist style cup in the form of a cup with hand and forearm as it's stem and base.
There is a clipping from the arts section of a news paper article dating to 1940 in which the current work is photographed and mentioned as a work being exhibited at the Detroit Artists Market.
Presented in a carved and white finished wood frame.

Condition: The painting has some craquelure and could stand to be tightened on the stretcher but is in good overall condition and wall ready.
