This work is a fabulous vintage reproduction of Raphael's famous self portrait painting which is currently residing at the Uffizi Museum in Florence, Italy. This specific rendition is a wonderfully painted porcelain placque with Raphael's famous self portrait. The wonderful diminutive work depicts the bust, side profile depiction of Raphael the artist wearing a black hat and tunic with thin white ruffled collar with long brown hair and wonderful natural toned skin against a neutral back ground. The same as the original painting does.
This vintage reproduction is wonderfully framed in a carved gilt wood and gesso frame with ornately carved corners and floral sprays and an oval form opening to display the placque . There is a miniature brass finished easel to display this lovely diminutive work.
Dimensions: 5"H x 3 1/4"W
Condition: There are splits to the gilt frame which can be seen all around, it does seem stable but could likely be restored or enjoyed as an antiqued frame. There is a piece of the cardboard keeping the placque within the frame that has slipped in front and is seen just above Raphael's head but could surely be fixed by removing the frame and puttling the placque back where it should be. The porcelain placque appears to be in house ready condition, not de mounted to fully inspect but there is some white spotting which can be seen towards the bottom of Raphael's tunic. The spots could likely be wiped down to clean. The brass finished easal also has some spotting but surely just needs to be cleaned as it's in good working order. Overall the lot presents well and is fun.
