Daniel Ridgway Knight (American, 1839-1924), Oil On Canvas, "Noonday Repast", signed and inscribed Paris.
Daniel Ridgway Knight (American, 1839 - 1924) was an important American artist whom received formal training from prestigious institutions including the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Ridgway Knight is best known for awe inspiring, naturalistic, figural genre paintings.
Knight earned "…major distinction in France at the Paris Salon in 1882", followed by numerous other prestigious awards of distinction, including the gold medal of honor from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia in 1893.
“Noonday Repast" wonderfully presents Ridgway Knight’s raw artistic ability. Ridgway Knight’s ability to embed fine quality details into every square inch of his masterpiece. The family party consisting of mother, baby and a young boy are painted with fine level details and crisp brushstrokes leave the viewer gazing in wonder.
Signed and inscribed Ridgway Knight / Paris to the lower right corner.
Presented in an exquisitely carved and gilt finished frame.
Condition: Lined, slight craquelure to the painting with indication of older restoration and small areas with in-painting to areas including the trim around the frame and an area of the sky just above the distant tree line.
Despite older restoration and wear commensurate with age, the painting presents marvelously and will surely impress wherever ultimately hung.

Additionally a gallery label on verso from MacConnal - Mason & Son Ltd., reads: "DANIEL RIDGWAY KNIGHT / (1839-1924) / "NOONDAY REPAST" / SIGNED AND INSCRIBED PARIS."
