Item Description
Daniel Huntington, New York artist, who belonged to the art movement known as the Hudson River School.
This painting depicts a sitting portrait of Julia Foster Ward holding a bouquet of pink roses on her lap. Her ivory complexion contrasting with her soft dark eyes with a bit of shadow beneath. Her lips show just a hint of lipstick which is all the brunette beauty needs. Her brown hair is pulled up and accentuates the exquisite sheer lace work on her dress from her collar to the ruffled sleeves. Her waist is cinched with a silvery ribbon that repeats on the sleeves. Her hands on her lap with one hand having a bracelet and the other holding flowers atop her hat.
Presented in a museum quality gilt wood with layer after layer of carved motifs including leaf and berry, geometric, beaded and foliate designs.
A sticker from Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, CT Museum on verso with No. 42-465. Also on verso an empty envelope from Tim Hall Restorations.

Condition: Examined with black light and visually appears to have little to no restoration at all.
