A collection of 6 early 20th century Japanese paintings on silk, in beautifully vivid colors.
Two paintings depict samurai on horseback, in gorgeous polychromatic highly patterned attire; one samurai rides a white horse and wears gold-toned accents and bow drawn, while the other rides a black horse with silver-toned accents with sword drawn.
Two paintings depict village scenes in gentle green and brown hues, featuring a small central figure dressed in blue. In one the figure rides a boat past a gathering of buildings, with a tall pagoda seen to the left, and the faint outline of mountains to the right. The other painting displays the figure crossing a small bridge while holding a fishing pole; he walks away from the village behind him towards a natural rock landscape with the shadow of large mountains emphasizing his scale.
Two paintings depict architectural buildings surrounded by nature in moody black with gilt accents. The first includes a house with two tiers of gilt gabled roofs, with bright white windows peeking through. The house sits on a mountainous overhand above a body of water flanked by waterfalls; two sail boats are seen to the right. The other painting depicts the tiered roof of a pagoda in striking gilt tones with black shadows, topped with an intricate finial. The pagoda looms above the black canopy against a gilt sky.
The last painting boldly stands in bright green and blue, with stalks of bamboo framing the left side while a reaching branch ends in white blooming flowers. A blue and white bird sits upon the branch, looking upwards.
All paintings are signed in the lower left or right corner, and are rolled in a cardboard carrying tube with brown and black snakeskin patterning.
Condition: All pieces display well with small scattered spots of discoloration and some pieces having fraying edges.
Each painting measures 18" W x 15" H
