A fantastic collection of antique lac burgate items including a decorative item to collect the days mail along with a hinged traveling writing desk with fabric fitted interior.
The letter collector features wonderful black lacquered finish with gilt finished decoration in geometric band to the rectangular form base. The shaped back and front, with decorative oval reserve are all finished in black lacquer and inlaid with mother of pearl.
The writing desk has a hinged back which opens to the fabric fitted cenral section. There are three slots to the front, two square form flanking a long drawer with insert. The base of the writing desk can be lifted once opened for a large storage space for pens and pencils.
Together with two Vintage brass and mixed media mounted fittings. The ends are hinged to keep the book in place and the central rectangular base can be pulled out at one side to make the opening larger.
Condition: Listed As Is, due to the numerous condition issues with the lac burgate items which have loss of finish, loss of inlay and broken and chipped bits of inlay. Chips and wear to the frame. The interior fabric on the writing desk in severe need of being replaced. The mail slot collector shows heavy wear and losses and is loose in its connections. Wear to the book slides as well however despite wear the lot is lovely and with some restoration will shine once again.
