Item Description
Civil War era Tiffany & Co. model 1840 cavalry sword beautifully etched on the blade with the maker's mark, the phrase "Warranted to cut wrought iron," decorated "US" letters with scrolled motifs, and a radiant eagle holding a banner with the phrase "E Pluribus Unum" on a ribbon over a Union shield. Accompanied with its sheath.
Verbal provenance: Previously belonging to George Bryant Woods (1844-1871) from Barre, MA. He served in the 8th Massachusetts Battery as a journalist during the war.
Condition: Displays well with expected wear commensurate with age. Surface scratches, minor discoloration, wood and wire wear to handle and patina with minor rust. Cracking along leather on sheath.
