Highly decorative Chinese famille verte enameled porcelain garlic mouth bottle vase, marked with an enameled Artemesia leaf underfoot. The vase pays homage to earlier examples in the manner in which it is potted and decorated. The vase is in the style of Qing Dynasty, 17th - 18th century, Emperor Kangxi. The Kangxi Emperor, whom ruled from 1661 - 1722, championed the famille verte enameled color scheme and the garlic mouth form bottle vase was a popular 17th - 18th century form.
The vase stands on a circular foot ring with a bulbous lower body surmounted by its cylindrical bottle form neck with bulged garlic form mouth. The vase features a wonderful, apocryphal enameled Artemesia leaf underfoot which is a mark frequently on Imperial porcelain during Kangxi's reign following an edict forbidding the use of the Emperor Kangxi's name on porcelain wares in case the porcelain broke. Therefore, instead of the more traditional 4 and 6 character reign marks found on other Imperial wares, some Kangxi and subsequent Kangxi style porcelain wares, feature decorative symbols including the artemisia leaf.
