An ancient Chinese carved jade "Bi" disc, from the Qijia culture (ca. 2300 - 1500 BCE). The Jade "Bi" disc has mottled tones ranging from chicken bone, to grey with russet tones amongst others.
The "Bi" comes with a black stand.
Certificate of Authenticity: Together with COA from Gu Fang, Senior Fellow of the Institute of Archaeology Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), dated 3/17/08, notarized on 3/18/08.
Chinese "Bi" discs are first known to have been created during the Neolithic period and have been traditionally revered for their use in ritual and funerary rites. These "bi" discs can represent heaven, and quite possibly the bi disc itself was meant to guide one's soul to the afterlife.
Condition
Gentle surface scuffs and slight wear around the outer rim and to front and verso, commensurate with vast age and handling.
