Item Description
Charles Leickert began his studies at the Hague with guidance from master artisans to hone naturalistic painting style. Best known for his impeccably detailed landscapes, both rural and urban. Leickert painted skies like few others. His impressive palette included marvelous pinks and blue hues.
Although the rural landscapes were what he is known best for, he also painted more urban landscapes as well, including cities such as Amsterdam and other urban sites throughout the Netherlands.
By the mid 19th century Charles Leickert became an active member of the Royal Academy of Amsterdam.
The current work is an exquisite example of Leickert's work with ornate detail seen throughout the figural landscape with architecture. The town with bridge and architectural buildings can be seen with a marvelous blue sky with impeccably painted clouds throughout.
Signed lower left.
Handsomely presented within an ornate carved and gilt finished frame.
Condition: The painting has been previously restored and lined, there is in-painting throughout especially in the sky. Good overall, Gentle wear to the gilt finished frame but presents marvelously overall. Wear is commensurate with age and usage.
