Caroline Burnett (American-French, 1877-1950) oil painting on canvas depicting an impressionist historic city scene with figures walking along a plaza in front of canopies leading to impressive architecture with yellow, red, and blue roofs. Signed lower right. The signature has not been authenticated.
Displayed without glass, with a brown fabric liner and medium brown fillet in a beveled brown wood frame.
About the Artist:
Caroline C. Burnett was an American-born artist known for her impressionist paintings of Paris streets for the tourist market. She was a member of the Societe de Beaux-Arts in Paris. Due to the nostalgic nature of her style and the lucrative market for Parisian tourist art, Burnett is considered one of the most frequently forged mid-century impressionist artists. Burnett's signature is noted to be always signed in capital print with red-brown paint at the lower right of her work.
