Item Description

Artist Boaz Vaadia (Israeli-American, 1951 - 2017) was an artist whom primarily worked in stone and subsequently bronze. Vaadia was based in New York City since 1975, where he primarily worked out of his studio in Brooklyn.

This bronze is from an edition of 5 with one artist proof. Ca. 1997. It can be found on the artists website at:
http://www.vaadia.com/bronzes/bigbronze/41.shtml

His works tend to focus on human form and man's connection to earth. Vaadia said of his work, "I work with nature as an equal partner. The strongest thing I address is that primal connection of man to earth. It's in the materials I use, the environments I make, and the way I work."

The current work is impressively cast bronze and a boulder stone to which the sculpture is affixed. The human is devoid of defining characteristics but is distinctly human in form and can be seen seated upon a large boulder stone with one leg pulled up toward the body with the figure's arms wrapped around. The figures right leg can be seen lowered down to the ground as if balancing the figure atop the large boulder.

Engraved "B", and numbered "4/5" to boulder.

His works can be found within numerous public and private art collections, including the mportant collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City; the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.

Condition: Oxidation and surface wear commensurate with outdoor display. Despite wear, has a wonderful patina and presents extremely well. See lot images as they are part of the condition. When originally produced this piece may have had a blue stone base which the boulder rested onto of.

SPECIAL NOTES: The sculpture is currently disassembled, the bronze was unbolted from the base due to the weight. This is not something that can go into the back of a suburban — it's going to require special movers that have a knowledge of moving heavy objects. BRG used an engine hoist to move both parts along with dollies and plywood. We estimate the total weight to be far over 1,000 lbs. Please be mindful of this if you are successful in bidding. If you are having this transported we will give you the two dollies as part of the transport fee. It will require a lift gate to reload.
