Bernard Jean Corneille Pothast (Belgian-Dutch, 1882-1966) "Getting Ready for Bed" oil painting on canvas depicting a mother in a milkmaid style outfit with a yellow shirt and blue skirt seated with two children and an infant in a crib within a homely interior with a red brick floor. The interior is simply decorated with a wood cabinet, pottery, and ladderback chairs illuminated by a window with a pretty pink flower in a vase set on the windowsill. Signed lower right.
Displayed in a handsome gilt frame with ornate foliate scrolled relief throughout.

About the Artist:
Bernard Pothast was a Dutch-born artist born to a family of artists. He studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. His works often focus on peasant families and mothers. Pothast's works are included in the collections of Museums across Europe, as well as the Fort Worth Museum and the Cincinnati Art Museum.
