Bernard Buffet (French, 1928 - 1999) was a French artist specializing in painting, printmaking and sculpture.
Buffet has an extensive ouevre with the large majority featuring figural imagery.
Examples of the artists work can be found in many of the world's leading museums and collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate as well as the Musee d'Art Moderne de Paris.
The current work is a limited edition lithograph. The image was used as the advertisement poster before the exhibition "Painters witnesses of their time" at the Gallieria Museum in 1968.
The work depicts the bust of a man in the style of a caricature. The figure is seen with wildly unkempt curly hair with orange streaks running through. He is wearing a green shirt and has almond form eyes with his mouth open as if screaming out into the world.
Pencil signed and numbered '237 / 250' out of plate, in addition to being signed and dated '67 in print.
