Created in 1968 by Ben Shahn to promote the opening of the Atelier Mourlot branch in New York City on Bank Street. Signed in plate lower right. The image features a black face superimposed on gray flying doves.

Having migrated from Lithuania with his family to the United States Shahn began his path to becoming an artist in New York where he was first trained as a lithographer. Note the use of birds reminiscent of Picasso's peace dove to announce Mourlot's arrival in North America. With his intimate knowledge of lithography and a keen sense of humour, Ben Shahn became quickly one of the studio's favorite visitor.
