Wonderful early 20th century American oil on canvas painting by August Franzen (1863 - 1938). Signed and dated 1914 and inscribed to George And Neva Palmer with the year 1914 on the lower left quadrant of the painting.
Gorgeous painted depiction of the subject Neva Palmer seen standing with her head turned over her left shoulder where she looks intimately into the viewer's gaze. Seen with her hair up in a fashionable hair style for the early 20th century in a wonderful top that has a ruffled collar which sits just at the tips of her shoulders and down in a wonderful pale green to blue blouse or dress. Holding a thin bouquet of fresh picked flowers, the artist August Franzen has meticulously depicted her hands folded around the bouquet of flowers with a wonderful ring on her left pinky finger which seems to catch the light just right. The artist Franzen has fittingly placed Neva Palmer in front of a ground color that plays well off the subject's wonderfully painted, piercing brown eyes.

Condition: There is some craquelure to the canvas which is commensurate with age and there is a roughly 10" streak across the top of the painting, just under the frame, where there is a lack of pigment. This could be loss or intended by the artist. It does not detract from the stunning quality of the work. The frame does have wear in the form of numerous chips and losses to the gilt paint and gesso used to build the wonderful texture of the gilt wood frame. The frame could be restored if desired or enjoyed as is for its lovely antique quality.
