Item Description
Original watercolor on board. Signed and dated 08 lower right for the 1908 publication of the play with his color illustrations from the original watercolors. A charming illustration of "Titania and Bottom" from the fourth act of "Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream". Both figures are in a lovely black and gray forest at twilight with twinkling stars. Titania, Queen of the Fairies, is tricked into falling in love with Bottom. Here she reaches out to him and pleads with him when he wishes to leave the forest. Her crown is on the forest floor behind her. Bottom has been given the head of an ass and is under a spell as well. The artist was a noted artist of fairy tale illustrations.
