This lovely vintage winter landscape painting on millboard which can be determined by the vintage label affixed to the verso denoting "Artists' Tube Colors, Canvas, Oil-Sketching, Paper, Millboard / Fine Bristle and Sable Brushes" The label has not weathered time as well as the landscape painting has and portions of the label are lost but it possibly was advertising for an artists' store called possibly Paints, Varnishes, & Co. on Fulton and William Sts., New York.
The landscape painting depicts two banks of a babbling river with leafless trees on the right hand side, leafless as they are not evergreen and have lost their leaves due to winter. On the opposite side of the river in the background is a wooden cabin with chimney spewing smoke from a fire in the chimney which also has lit up the wonderfully painted windows. There are birds seen crosing ofer the river in flight. There is a lovely color of the sky, likely due to sunset.
Signed lower right hand corner "B.M.S."
presented in a carved and gilt painted wooden frame.

Condition: There is some wear to the painted board, not much but there are some minute losses. The carved and gilt wood frame also displays it's age with cracks and small chips to the frame. Overall a lovely picture that displays very well.
