A gorgeous antique secretary well crafted in elegant renaissance revival style in a warm medium brown finish. The secretar sports an arched and pierced back gallery and a straight top leading to a slant front writing surface on hinges. The slant front, sides, and lower drawers are all lavishly carved with foliate scrolls in exquisite detail, adding an excellent sense of depth and decadent ornamentation.
With the slant front down, the back case is fitted with two small drawers and three spacious cubbies lined with elegant brackets along the top to create pretty archways. The lower case features two drawers with quatrefoil carved plaques around small knobs, leading to a double door cabinet with stunning wreaths and center medallions. Raised on carved bracket feet, completing the design.
Condition
The slant front cabinet does not close perfectly flush with a cup water stain to the top in front of the gallery. Back gallery is a little loose. Despite wear still a very handsome piece.
