"The English Version of the Polyglott Bible with Marginal Readings" published by Thomas, Copwerthwait & Co. PA, 1841. Signed by Major John B. Hays (1839-1898) on the flyleaf and dated 1842.
"The Book of Common Prayer." with "A New Version of the Psalms of David" by N. Brady and N. Tate, Edinburgh, 1783.
Hebrew New Testament published in 1817 by A Macintosh of London.
"Antiquitates apoitolicæ, or, The history of the lives, acts and martyrdoms of the holy apostles of our Saviour and the two evangelists SS. Mark and Lvke to which is added an introductory discourse concerning the three great dispensations of the church, patriarchal, Mosiacal and evangelical : being a continuation of Antiquitates christianæ or the life and death of the holy Jesus." Title pages are missing, but the frontmost page available reads "Imprimatur. Tho. Thomkyns, Ex Aedib. Lambeth. Feb 25, 1674."
Verbal Provenance: Major John Betts Hays (American, 1839-1898) of Meadsville, Pennsylvania, took part in the campaign at Chattanooga and the battle of Chickamauga, 1863.
Condition: With varying degrees of wear commensurate with age. Paper toning and wear to leather covers. The Polyglott Bible has a detached front cover and partially detached spine cover. The Book of Common Prayer has a partially detached front cover and is missing its back cover and title pages. The Hebrew New Testament is missing its spine cover and has leather damage to the front cover. The Antiquitates apoitolicæ is missing its spine cover and title pages, with moderate wear and tear to the handful of front pages. Foxing and toniing throughout.
