Ca. 19th c. oil on linen laid down on panel. One of several portraits of Penn none certified to have been done from life. William Penn (1644-1718) founded the colony of Pennsylvania, later to become the US state of that name. Penn stands in front of a curtain with a landscape in the background at the left. He wears the dress of a gentleman of the period of his life.
