A gorgeous antique French Empire style slipper chair circa 1890-1910 in rich red-brown mahogany, showcasing a rolled top rail accented with bronzed appliques including a central navette plaque depicting a figural face within a medallion flanked by branching foliage. The back and high-domed seat are nicely upholstered in yellow-cream with vining stripes surrounding medallions of monochromatic blue landscape scenes, trimmed with textural pink and yellow fabric tapes around the edges. A wreath motif decorates the apron, heralding large gilt leaves on cabriole front legs with stately paw feet over front casters.
Condition
The seat is slightly misshapen due to missing base upholstery or loose springs, but presents well nonetheless. Some staining to the seat upholstery near the front right corner. Scuffs and finish wear to the frame commensurate with age.
