Item Description

Platinum brooch. This amazing antique *Edwardian era brooch (and pendant) contains a center round faceted, cornflower blue color Ceylon (Sri Lanka) sapphire, 1.13 CTS and bezel set and GIA certed. Surrounding the sapphire are scrolls of openwork filigree, milgrain edged, and set with round faceted near colorless old European and single cut diamonds, approximately 2.79 TCW. The brooch also has a hidden hinged top bale so that the piece can also be utilized as a pendant.
*Jewelry from the Edwardian era (1901 -1910) is ornate and intricate while still conveying a lightness and airiness, the perfect foil to the heavy Victorian styles that it succeeded. Pieces of this era tend to use a lot of the color white (white metals, white materials such as diamonds and pearls) and use the style techniques of openwork filigree, knife wire and milgraining.
