Exquisitely crafted, antique, Continental / European enamel painted porcelain plaque has been fabulously framed in a carved fluted and gilt finished wood frame.
The painted scene depicts an interior setting with lavish decor, including green and gilt drapery and wood paneling to the walls.
There are two figures depicted. The first is an uninterested female portrayed in a wonderfully painted light blue hued dress. She is depicted in a seated position with one elbow firmly resting on the table with her head resting on her hand in an attempt to anchor herself to the table. The female sitter has one extended arm which is firmly grasped by her cavalier inspired male suitor. He is depicted with a black hat with pink feather, wearing a burnt orange / reddish hued top, with a fabulous purple hued tapestry or throw blanket in his other hand.
The male figure's wide brimmed hat conceals some of his facial expression but does appear to gaze downwards as if to incline his female companion in an effort to sway her away from the table.
The uncomfortable scene leaves the viewer with nothing but questions about the details of the scene.
Affectionately titled the 'Unwanted Advance'.
