This spectacular antique Chinese carved and parcel gilt painted wooden Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted seated on a lotus throne. The Buddhas carved wood form can be seen showing through as a portion of the gilt paint has begun to flake off, likely an effect commensurate with age related wear. The parcel gilt effect absolutely does not detract from its majestic and striking overall appearance.
While the overall age cannot be exactly verified, and may possibly be later. The work bears many of the decorative qualities inherent to similar examples dating back as far as the Ming through Qing Dynasties. With it's splits and wear most obious to the underside, coupled with it's flaking gilt decoration which is likely commensurate with age and wear; The overall appearance is marvelous with a wonderful scholarly overall appearance.

Condition: As stated above the age cannot be verified and may be later, the splits and wear to the wood body and lotus throne along with the flaking of the original gilt painted finish does show a good amount of wear which may or may not be commensurate with age and wear. Even with the wear the Buddha presents marvelously and will present well wherever ultimately placed.
