Item Description
A large and fine tapestry illustrating a forest with lush green leafy trees, and a broken tree trunk. Pink and white flowers grow in the foreground. The focus of the composition is the white bird standing over his deceased mate. His wings are out and he cries in despair as he mourns her. This will have had a special meaning for the owner and viewer.
Village houses appear in the distance along with a river and rocky outcrop. With a broad floral scrolled border in tan with pink and white flowers and palmettes. Outer borders in blue and tan, inner in black and tan. Lined in a tan linen like fabric.
109 x 117" with loops for hanging on the back
Condition: in very good condition with only some slits and well-repaired slits here and there, some wear to threads on the edges, some stains and tears to the backing, the tapestry presenting exceptionally well.
