Ames Union Officer’s sword, c. 1862, brass hilt, pierced counter guard with scrolled floral motif, D-guard, brass pommel cap with engraved foliate motif on either side, sharkskin and wire-wrapped grip, steel blade marked “Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee” and J.H. on shoulder and the reverse stamped “1862,” blade engraved with floral motif, Eagles and bugles, leather and brass accented scabbard with remnants of original strap, scabbard with 1/3 loss, good condition with expected signs of wear and use, blade measures 30 ½” l.; tip to pommel cap 36 ¼” l.; scabbard 24”.
