Item Description
After original drawings by Walter Perry Hodges (English, 1760-1845), engraved by Henry Thomas Alken (English, 1785-1851) and Richard Gilson Reeve (English, 1803-1889), a pair of antique engravings in great horizontal compositions of hunting scenes in a traditional manner, “The Chase of the Roebuck” followed by the “The Death of the Roebuck,” published on October 1, 1834. The latter includes view of Whatcomb House. Text is indicated below the plate, lower left and right as well, including published date towards the bottom beneath title. Dedicated by permission to EM W.P. Hodges. Displayed beneath glass in ebonized frames that compliment the imagery well.
Condition: Expected signs of wear including heavy toning to paper, frames with finish and molding losses, some minor separation to corners.
Each overall measures 18 1/4" h. x 23 1/4" w.; ss: 16 1/2" h. x 22 1/4" w.
