After Salvador Dalí (Spanish, 1904-1989) set of [5] photomechanical prints after “The Essays of Michel de Montaigne” (1947). Michel de Montaigne (French, 1533-1592)*. The vertical compositions depict Christian & religious motifs in the artist’s Surrealistic style with subdued but still vivid colors. Plate signed mostly lower right but also left. Each are laid on foam board, includes a mat, and protective sleeve with a signed certificate of authenticity/appraisal. They include the following:
“That to Study Philosophy is To Learn to Die” after “The Essays of Michel de Montaigne”
“Of Physiognomy”
“That We Taste Nothing Pure”
“Of Vanity”
“Of Age”
Condition: In overall good condition with expected signs of age and wear but in general good shape. Some alignment issues with mat but only minor.
Measures: 19”l x 9”w; s.s.: 7 1/2”l x 5 1/2”w
The prints are originally from:
*1947, Doubleday & Company, Inc., (Garden City, New York), Dalí selected and illustrated only 21 of the 107 essays with 16 original Dalí lithographs, in color, full-page; 5 black-and-white drawings, also in full-page; and 16 half-page drawings.
